CraftLodge: March 11, PASTIES!

6pm
$: Free, donations to ProLo happily accepted

Daisy Chains (https://www.facebook.com/chains.daisy) from Peach Pies Caburlesque is going to teach us the art of pastie making!

Supplies:

• Cross-stitch fabric (like this: http://www.joann.com/classic-reserve-aida-16-count-15-x18-box/prd35481/)
• About a half yard (that's way more than necessary, but it's good to have more) of whatever fabric they want to use on their pasties. I'd shy away from super shiny satins or stuff that frays easily, but anything else pretty much works.
• Heavy duty glue. I use either E-6000 or Fabri-Tac. Several people can share one bottle or tube of glue, too.
• A yard of sequins in whatever color they want. Sequins are .99/yard, so it's not as bad as it seems.
• Two bobby pins

Daisy will bring the patterns!

**A word of warning: the glue is really potent, and it takes off nail polish, so participants shouldn't care about their nails the day of the workshop.

After the workshop, Daisy said she's bring some liquid latex so we can all try on our pasties after we make them.

FRIDAY: March 30, Eliza Rickman w/ Mega Deft + Cait Shanahan

$5 cover
7:30pm

ELIZA RICKMAN
www.elizarickman.com
www.elizarickman.bandcamp.com
There is always a hint of menace and reservoirs of force haunting the corners of Eliza Rickman’s voice, whatever register it occupies. Her presence on stage—whether she wears flowers in her hair, or stuffed birds; whether she plays a toy piano or a grand piano—is an enveloping, soft darkness, impossible to ignore.

MEGA DEFT

THURSDAY: March 22, We Are the Willows w/ Dietrich Gosser + Ugly Brothers

$5 cover

WE ARE THE WILLOWS
www.wearethewillows.com
"Miller has a voice that is reminiscent to Joel Thibodeau of Death Vessel, as it sparkles with ambiguity and a sweet, buttery topping, offering these tender sentiments like the steam from a life-preserving cup of morning coffee, on a morning when you can look out the window and see that everything's frozen solid." -Daytrotter

DIETRICH GOSSER
www.dietrichgosser.bandcamp.com
"Dietrich Gosser has been quietly amassing a Midwest underground following with his lush & sometimes haunting compositions. The Onion AV Club describes Gosser as 'folk-y bedroom pop that sounds big and inviting, often with the help of drummer and avant-percussionist Dan Kuemmel'." - Wisconsin Public Television

SATURDAY March 17: Dastardly w/ Icarus Himself & The Lonesome Savages

ST. PATTY'S DAY IN STYLE.
doors: 7:30
music: 8:00
cover: $5

DASTARDLY (Chicago, IL) - www.dastardlytheband.com
Best. Fucking. Band. Ever. Touring behind their new EP, "Bury Me In The Country." Hear a man croon and howl about death, booze and love over a band that seems to understand what he's going on about; harmonious voices and instruments of the past collide with a confused and desperate present.

ICARUS HIMSELF - www.icarushimself.bandcamp.com
"Whetro, guitarist Karl Christenson and drummer Brad Kolberg bring forth a sound that is a bottle of champagne prior to and after its violently shaken and had its cork popped. It's beautiful in its pretty green-glassed bottle for much of the time and then it gets all over the place." - Daytrotter

THE LONESOME SAVAGES - www.thelonesomesavages.bandcamp.com
"...a mighty punch-up of fiery, pre-Beatles rock ’n’ roll, where the spastic energy of early Jerry Lee Lewis collides with the filthy rockabilly lining of The Cramps, spitefully wrapped in a snakeskin jacket of wild reverb." - Onion AV Club

WEDNESDAY Feb 15: Jon Dee Graham & Mike June

JON DEE GRAHAM will be coming back to The Project Lodge on Weds., February 15th. Austin singer-songwriter Mike June will open. Graham, the only 3-time inductee of the Austin Music Hall of Fame, will be taking a break from recording his new record Garage Sale to go out and play some new songs to some old friends. The record's origins began when Graham started a co-op through his website, encouraging fans to purchase a monthly subscription in return for new art, drawings, videos and a new song from Graham. As a result, Graham found himself freed from the shackles of the traditional album format, and free to experiment with new directions. The results are wildly different: from the lush atmospheric balladry of "Yes Yes" to the Mexican Dub-step of "Venceremos," Garage Sale proves that Graham is still a vital creative force over 30 years into his storied career.

WEDNESDAY March 7: Unicycle Loves You w/ Crane Your Swan Neck

7pm
$5

UNICYCLE LOVES YOU (Chicago, IL) - www.unicyclelovesyou.bandcamp.com

In 2010, Unicycle Loves You stripped away the studio gloss of their self-titled 2008 debut and took a large step forward with the release of Mirror, Mirror. Once again handling the roles of songwriter and producer, Jim Carroll has dug even further into his Sebadoh/Guided By Voices-influenced home-recording roots for Unicycle Loves You’s latest record, Failure. Due for release on Valentine’s Day 2012, their Mecca Lecca debut contains all the pop sensibility of their earlier work but with a rawer, more focused sonic palette.

Loaded with buzzing guitars in the red, highly addictive melodies, and lush boy/girl harmonies, Failure combines the best elements of 90′s indie rock and dream pop for a refreshing Pop Art sound. While it may be the band’s heaviest, thrashiest album to date, songs such as “Garbage Dump”, “Sun Comes Out (And I Don’t Care)”, “Bitch Eye”, “Piranha” and “Wow Wave Cinema” are also some of their strongest and poppiest moments on record.

Unicycle Loves You are honored to have shared the stage with such acts as Weezer, The Raveonettes, Fiery Furnaces, Telekinesis, Generationals, Art Brut, Tapes ‘n’ Tapes, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Bishop Allen & Crystal Antlers.

CRANE YOUR SWAN NECK (Madison, WI) -  www.myspace.com/craneyourswanneck

"For being a mere quartet, the chamber-pop tunes of Madison’s Crane Your Swan Neck are impressively expansive. Anchored by the witty and deliberate songwriting of vocalist-guitarist Randall Luecke, Crane Your Swan Neck’s tunes are each peppered with the rippling hooks of cellist Pat Reinholz. Meanwhile, the rhythm section of drummer Shawn Pierce and bassist Kenny Monroe tastefully trudge underneath. Luecke’s crooning stays infectious and is often met with soaring back-ups from Monroe, who also hammers out auxiliary percussion and toy piano when not laying down his minimal bass lines." - The Onion AV Club

FRIDAY: March 2nd, Breathe Owl Breathe w/ Cedarwell & Pioneer

$10
doors: 7:30pm
music: 8:00pm

(limited advanced tickets available, contact projectlodge.madison@gmail.com to reserve your ticket**)

Breathe Owl Breathe http://www.breatheowlbreathe.com
"As Breathe Owl Breathe, Michigan trio Micah Middaugh, Andréa Moreno-Beals and Trevor Hobbs sound as intimately familiar with woods and wild as their band name suggests, but there's an air of cosmopolitan sophistication, too. Their forest-paced, guitar-and cello-grounded "Playing Dead" has the careful, modern approach to folk production of rustic post-rock ensemble Califone, and Middaugh's weary vocal also braves Palace Brothers' Southern haints." - Pitchfork

Cedarwell www.cedarwell.com
Cedarwell’s Erik Neave well embodies his northern heritage. Sheboygan, Wisconsin, should be proud of such a wonderfully full beard, such tough flannel shirts and darkly twisted, acoustic-pop songs that seem to ride nature’s very rhythm. Crisp clarity and addicting genuineness hibernate Neave’s voice somewhere in the back of your memory, somewhere where it can stay for a long, long time, constantly reminding you that this is Wisconsin, and winter never really ends.

Pioneer www.pioneer.bandcamp.com "Dynamic ripples of Jacqueline Kursel’s cello rise and fall over Monroe’s wandering chord progressions, as his low, quivering croons float across the top. From the seasick waltz of “In Summertime” to the neo-folk sweetness of “I Like You,” it becomes clear that Monroe has still found a voice of his own within a crowded genre." - The Onion AV Club

**Reserved spots at the show will be good until 15 minutes after the show is scheduled to start (so until 8:15pm). Then spots will be given to people trying to pay at the door.**
